Te Ihi Ora is a proactive response to challenging the issue of suicide for Māori. Te Ihi Ora are culturally immersed wānanga, that builds on a Māori framework for working in a pre and post-vention space with mental health, self harm and suicide issues.
These wānanga draw on an in-depth Te Ao Māori methodology, from kaumātua kōrero, for working with people effected by suicide or at risk of suicide. The facilitation team have experience in suicide prevention, mental health and addiction treatment and have years of experience working with whānau Māori.
Wānanga are free and available to frontline staff (and whanau) who want to promote Māori health and wellbeing as well as learn more about a kaupapa Māori approach to utilising protective factors in preventing suicide.
